The Union Co.’s steamer Kowhai arrived at Wellington at 10.15 o’clock last night from Kaipara with 170,000 ft of timber to put out here. Captain Jackson. Fowler is in command of the Gisborne Sheepfarmers’ Association steamer Tiroa, which arrived at Wellington last evening to load a boiler and machinery for a freezing werks at Hick’s Bar. The Kokiri left Westport at 7.20 o’clock yesterday morning for Wellington with a load of coal for bunkering purposes. The Kamona is to leave Greymouth today with a cargo of coal for Wellington Portion of the coal is for the Miramar gas works and the remainder for the town trade. The Poherua is to sail from Westport to-day for Wellington with coal loaded at Greymouth and at Westport. The Invercargill was brought off the Wellington patent slip on Saturday morning. and berthed at the King’s wharf at noon on Saturday. The Federal Shir© liner Northumberland will sail from Wellington on Sunday next for Boston and New York, via Panama. To-morrow the tramp steamer Numeric is expected to arrive at Wellington from Calcutta via Newcastle. She will load stud sheep for South America. The officer in charge of the radio station at Chatham Islands reports that for the past fortnight the sea for a distance of thirty miles off the shore has been greatly discoloured. The cause is unknown, but it is supposed to be duo to a submarine disturbance.

It was reported to the Lyttelton Harbour Board at its last meeting, that during September 113 vessels, with a total net tonnage of 137,293 tons, entered the Port of Lyttelton,- as -against 160 vessels, aggregating 134,081 tons during, the corresponding month of last year. During the first nine months of the year 1920, 1,264,941 tons of shipping entered the Port, as compared with 1,047,955 tons during the first nine months of last year. The Rosamond will leave Wellington to-dav with general cargo for Westport and Greymouth. The Flora, which arrived at Wellington from Onehunga last night, sails for New Plymouth with general cargo. To-morrow the Corinna is due from New Plymouth with cheese, and subsequently loads general cargo for Timaru, Oamaru. and Dunedin, sailing hence on Wednesday. The Union Company expect to dispatch the E.M.S. Mamma from Wellington for San Francisco via ports, on Wednesday at 3 p.m, MOANA FOB SYDNEY. The Union Company advise that the Moana, which has been laid up at Wellington owing to trouble between the firemen and tho chef, is to be recommissioned this week in order to sail on Thursday afternoon for Sydney and Hobart. JAPANESE BOAT FOR REPAIRS. An unexpected arrival in the stream at Wellington on Saturday morning was the Japanese steamer Kiso Maru, bound from Lyttelton to Newcastle, which put in for engine repairs. Tho vessel, which sailed from Lyttelton at 8.10 o’clock on Thursday night, experienced a break-down of her feed pump, which necessitated running to tho nearest port. Repairs will be effected in the stream. TUTANEKAI RETURNS. The Government steamer Tutanobai, after being absent from Wellington for nearly a month in a futile endeavour to land stores' at the Kahurangi Point lighthouse. returned to Wellington yesterday afternoon from Westport, where sho has been waiting during most or tho time to* fine weather. The Tutanobai made five visits to the vicinity of Kahurangi Point, but on every occasion there was too big a sea on to effect a landing. Tho vessel brought ft cargo of 300 tons of coal from Westport to Wellirgtou for tho State Cool Department. She will probably go back to the West Coast for the purpose of delivering atoms at tho Kahurangi Point lighthouse. PALOONA FROM MELBOURNEI The Paloona left Melbourne on Satur. day witli passengers and cargo for Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Wellington, nml is expected to arrive at this port about October 20th.
