MUNICIPAL BRICKWORKS
VALUABLE CLAY DEPOSIT. At- recent meetings of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce the advisability of establishing municipal brickworks has been discussed. ’Jho Mayol (Mr J. P. Luke) has expressed himself most optimistically on the subject, and has stated that some of the clay deposits in Wellington would bo found to bo most. suitable for the purpos.e. It was estimated thiat the price of bricks would be considerably reduced as tho result of.the operations of the municipal, undertaking, and that there being an almost unlimited supply of clay, the project presented commercial possibilities of considerable importance to the municipality with its multifarious undertakings, while the whole community would reap the advantage of decreased prices. It is now stated that a,deposit of clay of a superior quality has now been found near Wellington and thoroughly tested, with most satisfactory results. It is said to bo suitable for tho manufacture of tile ware as well as bricks.
