WT3LLINCTON MARKETS. . A good inquiry exists for the more favouricd varieties of dessert aptples, which are not in heavy supply at the present time. Cooking apples are-won-derfully sought after at fair prices.' With the higher transit charges from Tasmania to Wellington, ij: is not likely that any apples from that quarter will arrive this season, unless there is a material advance in the value here of New Zealand apples. There is, however, no reason why supplies of dessert peara should not be marketed here, unless, of course, very high prioes are ruling in Hobart. There are very few varieties of New Zealand fruits available just now, and consequently the regular weekly shipment of citrous New South Wales descriptions arrives very opportunely. Island oranges and 'bananas are due towards the close of next week. POTATOES AND ONIONS.

Whether the prospects of shipping potatoes to Australia have been responsible for higher prices ruling just recently the fact remains that prices ruU. ing in the South Island are from 15s to 20a per ton higher, and no doubt in view of this growers are hoping that at last there may be some prospect of getting a small profit on their .labours. Cables report that the Australian inspeoor sails this week for New Zealand to satisfy himself on the question ,of whether the powdery 6cab- is -very -ggcnounced here. If his inspection ie gains' to be of any benefit this season it will be necessary for him to carry out his duties without delay, as it is not likely that at the earliest shipments could be made to Sydney before the end of September, and that city will then only 'have .a month in whjph they oould take supplies before their new potatoes I come in. Cables from Melbourne report a greatly advanced market there for onions. A small shipment. arrived by the Westralia, and tlie Kaiapoi, due oh lYiday. is bringing further shipment.
