It is understood that tho Government • is_ expootantly awaiting the French Note, which has been sent, expressing satisfaction at tho unanimity ,of the French and American policy towards Russia! It is said thatnothing'could please tho Administration moro than, to havo France's approval of the United States attitude towards Russia. It is pointod out that Franco always insisted that the United States should bo' consulted in the formation' of any general Allied programme concerning Russia.

The Poles disbelieved the first brief reports of Mr Lloyd George's speech on August 10th, owing to its wide divergence from his previous utterances. Later confirmatory summaries have produced the most depressing effect. Ono I commentator nicknames Lloyd George i as'''Lord Chameleon"; others saythat he ''shifts his position with the lovity of a grasshopper" and that "ho is no longer -an ally &( Poland, but has* become the friend of tho Bolsheviks."
