MINISTER'S REFUSAL. A demand that retrospection of all allowances and pay be mad© by the Government to soldiers of all ranks, so as to bring about a uniform standard for the whole war period, was embodied in a remit passed at the last annual conference of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association and forwarded to the Minister for Defence. The secretary has just received from the Minister a' reply to the effect that the Government has already decided that increases of pay and allowances shall not be made retrospective beyond the dates already authorised. *'l regret to inform you that it ia not intended to vary this decision," stated the Minister.
