"FRIEND AND ADVISER"
AND A PROPERTY DEAL. CLAIM FOR COMMISSION. Aa an addition to the recent claims for commission in respect to property deals, a case came before Mr W.f GRiddell, S.M., in tho Magistrate's Court, yesterday, wherein George Frederick Woodward claimed from Burt and Co., land agents, tho sum of £35, boing half commission in regard to a sale that ho alleged had been effected through his instrumentality. Mr T. C. A. Hislop appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr C. B. O'DonInell for the defendants.
It was explained .that Mrs Terrace, tho purchaser of the property, acting on the advice of her friend and adviser, Mr Woodward (plaintiff) bought the property referred to, and Woodward thereby considered he was entitled to half the commission. Tho agent admitted that plaintiff had helped to effect the sale, and offered him £lO, for his trouble, but plaintiff refused to accept, and the agent then refused to give him anything. Mr O'Donnell contended that e. "eeoret commission," had been made by Woodward, but the magistrate overruled his contention, and awarded plaintiff the sum of £ls.
