Surrey had a sporting victory at the Oval, beating Lancashire, who mado 208 runs in the first innings. Surrey declared at 278 for 9. Lancashine mado 160 in the second innings. Surrey havo lost 1 wicket for 91, Hobbs (not out) ■ 57. Surrey knocked up the ruri3 in 47 minutes, "forcing a winning position against the clock. Makepeace in 130 minutes batted admirably for 62, but was podrly supported. Hobbs -completely mastered Parkin. It was the best.'match of the season. Following uo the averages:—Bat ting: Hondren, total runs 1384, average, 72.84; Hobbs 1566, average 62.64; Hearns 1096, average 57,68; Holmes 1234, average 51.41; Russell average 51.34. Bowling: Rhodes 85 wickets at 11.17; Woolley, 101 at 13.24; Parkin, 40 at 13.85; Cooke, 101 at 14.30; Fairsoryice, 72 at 14.50. Surrey leads in the county championship from Yorkshire, Kent and Lancashire.
