Reports from Kovno state that the Bolsheviks have occupied Minsk, and a message from Breslau states that the Polish army has evacuated Brest Litovsk. PARIS, July 10. A high Ukrainian representative, referring to the Bolshevik operations against Warsaw, remarked to a newspaper correspondent: “The game is up. Poland is completely beaten.’’ AVASHINGTON, July 9. The Lithuanian representative hero has announced that Poland has recognised the dc facto Government in Lithuania. Reuter’s Telegram. WARSAW, July 11. A communique states: Under strong pressure the Poles have fallen hack from the Bercsina lines. The Bolsheviks crossed the Pripet, hut were driven back with heavy losses, to south of the Pripet. The Poles have fallen back to the other side of Sarny, and the Bolsheviks have occupied Sarny. The Poles have fallen, back in Podolia according to plan. POLES ANSWER CALL TO COLOURS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. WARSAW, July 11. The Poles, realising that they must bo self-reliant, nro splendidly rallying for the defence of their homes. Nearly half a million additional war workers have enlisted, of whom 100,000 are fit for active service. The police volunteered en masse. The shoemakers are organising a regiment named after Kilinski, in memory of the famous cobbler hero of the struggle of 1784. ALLIES PROPOSE AN ARMISTICE. SPA, July 12. It is reported that as the result of Grabski’s request for' Allied intervention, pointing o'ut that the foreign policy of Poland is misunderstood, the Allies have sent a Note to Russia, pro. posing an immediate armistice for Poland, on condition that the Poles withdraw to their own frontiers, the armistice - to be followed by a Peace Confer* ence at which all the States bordering on Russia shall take part. The Note adds that if the Bolsheviks invade Poland the Allies will give Poland every possible assistance. It is officially denied that Britain is proposing a separate peace with Russia. NOTE TO SOVIET RUSSIA. NEW~YORK, July 11. Tho “New York Herald’s” Spa cor. respondent states that Mr Lloyd Georg© and M. Millerand have flatly refused Poland’s request for munitions and supplies delivered to the Allies by Germany. .

'Fhe “Echo de Paris”, states that Mr George, after consulting the representatives of Franco and Italy, is sending a Note to the Soviet Government at Moscow, stating that the resumption of commercial and probably of political relations will be,dependent upon an immediate, armistice to Poland, and stating that the Powers will thereafter fix the frontier in agreement with Moscow. In the event of refusal, they will send help to Poland.

Tho ‘ ‘Echo de ParisV contends that a pre-requisite to the policy of bringing France into touch with Moscow must be Moscow’s recognition of the Russian debt and guarantees from Russia, and Poland respecting tho future.
