KELBURN TRAMWAYS
DISPUTE BEFORE CONCILATTON COUNCIL. PARTIAL SETTLEMENT BEACHED The dispute between the Kelburn and Karori . Tramway Company and their employees was heard before a Conciliation Council yesterday, the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr IV. Newton, presiding. The assessors for the company were Messrs O. S. Watkins, L. H. B. Wilson, and J. Darling; and for the employees, who are members of the Wellington Tramways'’ Union, Messrs A. L. Momeith, \J. Hobbs and H. Rogers. The union asked for a 48-hour week to bo worked in shifts of eight hours on six days; also tho following minimum rates of pay;—Gripmen, 2s Id per hour: ropemen, 2s 2d per hour; and ticket and parcel attendants, Is lid per bout*. Overtime was sought at tlfo rate of time and a half where the work was continuous. Considoratoin. of the wages demands was left to tho last. After a sitting of several hours, a settlement was effected upon all, points but wages, which were deferred for further consideration.
