A DRAWN GAME
NEW ZEALAND V. AUCKLAND NORTHERN FORWARDS SUPERIOR TO CHOSEN PACK. FEK r-BESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND. July 10. The New Zealand Rugby team, which is to tour Australia, played Auckland to-day in the presence of about 8000 spectators. The ground was heavy after reeent rain and contrary to expectations the game ended in a draw, each team scoring 11 points. The New Zealand backs were superior to the local backs but the Auckland forwards, particularly in the second spell, outclassed -their opponents. The teams were as follow:—New Zea-land.—Full-back, J. O'Brien (Auckland); three-quarters, Storey ' (South Canterbury), Algar (Wellington), and Stoele (West Coast); five-eights, C. Badely (Auckland), J. Tilyard (Wellington); half, Brown (Taranaki); forwards, Donald (Wairarapa), Carroll (Manawatu), Duncan (Otago),-West (Taranaki), Moffitt (Wellington). McLean (Buller), Jacob (Horowhenua), Baird (Southland). Auckland. Full-back, Kingston; three-quarters, Phillips, V. Bade-ley, and Nicholson; five-eights, Prussing and Grierson; half, Ross; forwards, Singe (wing), Lomas, Taylor, Lucas. Alexander, M. Hayward, Arnold, and Fletcher. The first spell ended in New Zealand s favour by -11 points to 3, tries boing scored by McLean, Tilyard, and Algar, one of which O'Brien converted. Hayward scored for AucklandIn the second spell the Auckland forwards ran all over the New Zealand pack. Lomas scored a try which V. Badeley converted arid Badeley also converted a penalty. There were two casualties, Jloffitt and Fletcher being both compelled to. leave the field, Fletcher with an injured ankle. It is expected, however, that thev will both make the trip to Aus- I tralia.
