I The Government) has decided to appoint Mr A. JT. Ellis (of the Pacific I Phosphate Company), Auckland, to be the New Zealand Commissioner of Nauru Island, under the agreement made in 1919, by which three Commissioners are to be appointed to represent Great Britain, Australia, and New Zealand.

News was received by mail of tha death in London of Mr William McCutcheon, a former resident of Ponsbnby, who was for some years with .the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., and subsequently accountant and secretary to T. and S. Morrin, Ltd. He left for England prior to the war to start business there on his own account, and he was in business when he died.

Mr L. Heyward, who died at the residence of his son, in South street, Petone," was born in Guernsey, and came to New Zealand by the Inchiman sixty-four years ago. He resided in Wellington up to five years ago, when he'went to stay with his eons in Petone. He leaves a widow, two sons (Messrs W. L. and H. G. Heyward, of Petone), and a daughter, Mrs Ward, of Koro Koro. The deceased was seventy-three years of age.
