A FAMOUS SURGEON
DEATH OE WILLIAM ORAWFORI GORGAS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Received July a, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 5. Surgeon-General Gorgas has died in London. The Bang recently visited the hospital and conferred (he'Knighthood of St. Michael and St. George on him in recognition of his cervices in regard to malaria.
William Crawford Gorgas was a sur-geon-general in the American army and was born in Alabama, in 1854. He was a recognised expert in sanitary matters, holding important positions in Havana and controlling the sanitary work in,tho Panama Canal. He held numerous medical honours.
