HOROWHENUA NOTES
OTAKI, Juno 5. Mr "Dug.” Webster, who has been on a trip to Australia, with the well-known racer, Fisher., has -arrived back and has resumed training. Two football matches wore played at Alanakau on Saturday, wiion Otaki defeated Hui Nat jj(junior) 3—o, and Hui Nai (senior, defeated Kuku, 12—0. Tho Otaki Brass Band delivered, a fine programme of musio at the Sanatorium on Sunday. Speaking at the ratepayers’ meeting at Otaki on Wednesday night, Mr J. P. Brandon (chairman of tho Town Board) said that so far as he was concerned- ho was determined to do his'Utmost to collect unpaid rates. It had been decided to sue all defaulters after July 4th, and ho would see that a list of these was handed to tho board's solicitor on Hie 3bh instant, with instructions to sue all without fear or favour. Air Brandon said ho had been told that he would make himself unpopular, by lps actions. “Well,” said he, ‘T am not seeking popularity, but simply desire to do my best to advance tbo interests of the town.'' These remarks were greeted with, applause. (
