Mr R. F. R. Beetham, of Mlastol* ton, is at present on a visit to Christchurch. Mr A. P. Dryden, chief postmaster at Wellington, who has been on a holiday trip to Australia, has now returned to resume duty. y Mr and Mrs J. Windsor, residents of Pirie street, who have been visiting Sydney, are returning to Wellington by the Ulimaroa. ' Mr P. Hally. Conciliation Commissioner, who has been engaged in the hearing of a dispute at Gisborne, has returned to Auckland. Mr T. Collerton, who has been in the employ of the Defence Department for some years, has been transferred tc the housing branch of the .Labour Department. 'ihe death has occurred at the Masterton Hospital of an old settler of the Eketahuna district in,the person of Mr Thomas Brooker. The deceased, who was a widower, was seventy-four years of age. Mr R. W. Bond, engineer to the Akitio County Council, has been, appointed engineer to the Waipawa County Council. He at one time held a similar position at Weber. On resigning his position of buyer for George and Kersley’a fancy departments, Mr D. J. Rogers, who is proceeding to Palmerston North, was presented by the staff with a leather bag and handsome piece of silver plate. Mr J. J. Keane, engineer to the Cook County Council, who is at present on a visit to America to gain information upon road-making methods, will bo leaving on his return to New Zealand about the 23rd inst. Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, of Carterton, who has been seriously ill foi the past six months, but was recently apparently making fair progress towards recovery, , has suffered a relapse, and is again confined to his bed in a very precarious condition. * Messrs C. J. Thanks and R. L. Stewart (directors) and Mr A. S. Wilson, secretary to the Auckland branch of the Y.M.C.A., are visiting Hamilton in connection with The campaign to raise funds to erect a hall in that town. The H. Spencer, who foi the past 22 years has been secretary and organiser for the British and Foreign Bible Society, has, tendered his resignation prior to taking up his residence in. Auckland. The Rev. A. T. Thompson, M.A., 8.D., who has been associated for the past two years with the Rev. Spencer, has been appointed to fill the vacancy. Messrs A. F. Roberts , and H. D. Bennett have been appointed to represent the Council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce at a conference—called by the Central Progress League—of local bodies and others interested in the progress of the province. The conference will be held at Winder's- Buildings at 2 p.m. on July 16th. Mr William Stewart Forbes, son of Mr and Mrs Mackenzie Forbes, of the Imperial Hotel, Wanganui, is leaving by the lonic to-day for London to join the firm of Adamson, Gilfillan and Goof London and Bombay. Prior to leaving Wanganui Mr Forbes was given a send-off by a large number of friends and was the recipient of several presentations.
