Just over" 130 years ago there was not a white man in the whole of the great Southern Continent. To-day it is the proud land of a virile race, numbering all told just innide five millions of people. The population is settled principally on the seaboard, and for the most part on the easlj and south. There are immense tracts of sparsely-populated country awaiting the millions whom it is hoped will people these lands during the next few decades. Conditions of life in Australia are amongst the best in the world. Its cities, beautifully laid out in broad thoroughfares, hare ample breathing spaces in parks and choice gardens, features which are greatly appreciated by the pooplo, whoso lovo of outdoor life ia proverbial.
