'SANDULE WINS NATIONAL HURDLES. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—-Copyright (Received July 4, 6.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE. July 3. At the V.R.C. winter the following was the result of the prin« cipal race:— . , GRAND NATIONAL HURDLE RACE, Of 2000 eovs; two miles and a half. Sandule, 10.2 (Williams) 1 Bright Plume, 9.13 (Cairns) Si Tulliiah, 9.11 (Thompson) a Nineteen started. Tulliiah was quickest away with Pistolier and Suma next, but Sandule took charge before they reached the bridge, followed by Youghol, Merry Bob and Tulliiah. At tho next jump Two Blues, Pistolier and Colonel Knut fell, and pasting the stand Captain W. and Mneon lost their riders, Mneon falling and breaking his neck. Sandule was never headed, and, stalling off a bold bid by Bright Plume, won by two lengths. Time, smin 41sec, a record for the race. Beltane got badly away and finished fifth. _ The appeals against their disqualifications, lodged by L. H. Hewitt,' J. O'Shea, and E. C. Rate, the jockeys who refused to complete their engagements at the Avondale meetinir, is to bo heard on Thursday at Wellington.
