General Carroa Cluma is leading another Mexican revolution because he disagrees with President Obregou’e policy. SOUTH AFRICA AND THE 1 CURRENCY QUESTION. CAPETOWN, July 1. A Select Committee on the embargo on the export of specie recommends that South Africa should aim' at- the re-, storation of the currency to the prewar gold basis. It proposes that, until a gradual return to normal conditions has been made, legislation should be introduced for the taking of gold out of circulation and replacing it by gold certificates, such certificates to bo temporarily inconvertible pending the restoration of the gold standard. It recommends t)ic establishment of a Central Bank, not competitive with the existing banks, but having the sole right of issuing bank notes, centralising cash reserves, and regulating the expansion or contraction of the currency. ‘ FIGHTING IN CHINA. PEKIN, July 1. Civil war is still rampant in Hunan. The southern troops occupied Ydchow, and the leader of the Northern army has fled to Hankow. Meanwhile, terrorism aroused by local bandits in the Hankow district has reached such a pitch as to necessitate joint action by the British, Japanese, and American Yangtse squadrons, which are concentrated at HankowDEMPSEY v. CARPENTIER. DETROIT, July 1. Carpentier, the French boxer, is expected to arrive in New York to-mor-row in order to confer with Dempsey and Curley, the promoter, to form tentative plans for a championship contest this year. Carpentier will sail for France on the 10th, and will return to the United States in September. He will meet Battling Levinsky in October. New York newspapers have received a telegram from Jack Kearns stating that he and Dempsey are comity; to New York to extend a challenge to Carpentier in person. Dempsey will arrange to meet the American contender if Carpentier dees not accept his offer to fight the champion this year. ARMISTICE DAY. Reuter’s Telegram. ■ ' LONDON, June 30. In reply to a question in the House of Commons, Mr Bonar Law said it was proposed to repeat the commemoration of the Armistice this year.
