The small steamer Karu, bound from Lyttelton to Wellington was sighted on Thursday evening by the Baden Powell, sheltering at Cape Campbell from the •north-westerly gale. The Ivaru’s departure from Wellington for Lyttelton has been postponed till Monday. Captain, A. E. Barlow, formerly master of the Moana, is to relieve Captain E. Stott, marine superintendent for the Union Company at Auckland, while the latter goes on his holidays. The Hororata is to leave Brisbane next Saturday for Timaru, Lyttelion, Wanganui, and Wellington, to load for Boston and New York. Mr M. "Moore signed on the Moeraki yesterday as extra third officer. The Baden Powell is due back at Wellington on Wednesday from Lyttelton and will sail again for that port on Wednesday evening. The steamer Huia, which left Wellington last night for Picton, is due back here to-morrow, and will sail for Wanganui on Monday. . The vessel will call in at Lyttelton about August 17th to unload some aeroplanes only, and will then go on to Port Chalmers to put out general cargo. She will subsequently return to Lyttelton to complete discharge. TAINUI AT SOUTHAMPTON. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company have received cable advice that tho liner Tainui arrived at Southampton .on AVednesday afternoon after a smart passage of 41 days from AVellngton. Line advise that the Port .Denison, en route from London, is expected to leave Sydney on the 14th inst. for Auckland, where she is duo on the 19th inst. Tho vessel is expected to reach Wellington on the 26th inst. to complete discharge. ROTHESAY BAY OUTSIDE. The barque Rothesay Bay, after a smart passage of only 7 days from Newcastle arrived off th© AVbllington Heads yesterday morning and signalled for a tug and a pilot. Thg tug Pelican went out and after some difficulty owing to north-westerly gale, got a tow-line aboard the sailer. It was not possible to transfer the pilot, but the Pelican towed the barque for two hours against the gale without being able to get her to port and thei tow was abandoned. Tho Rothesay Bay was then blown through the strait towards' the southeast. She has 750 tons of Newcastle coal for J. Redpath and Sons, AVellington, for industrial purposes. MATATUA~LEFT LIVERPOOL. Cable advice has been received by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co. that the liner Matatua left Liverpool last Monday afternoon for Auckland, AVellington, Lyttelton. and Port Chalmers. The vessel is due at Auckland on August 12th and will discharge explosives in th© powder ground before berthing. The Matatua should reach Wellington on August 24th. lONIC SAILS AVEDNESDAY.
