An American warship has been authorised to take Carranza off under safe escort where he desires to go. (Received May 23, 11 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 22. • Carranza is repprted to have been murdered by his followers, who revolted. Tho United States may demand tho disavowal of the act and tho punishment of the murderers before it recognises the new Mexican Government. There 1 was no confirmation of tho report up to the 22nd instant.
VILLA HOLDS BRITISHER FOR RANSOM.
(Received Mav 23, • 5.5 p.tn.) WASHINGTON, May 21. It is reported to tho State Department that the Mexican bandit. Villa, is holding Mr George Millar, a British citizen, under ransom of 50,000 d.ollars.
