INCREASE IN WHARFAGE RATE. rza miss association. NDDhUiN, April 13. The Nelson Harbour Board to-day, after hearing a statement by the chairman ol the board’s financial position and as to the increased charges that would have to be faced in the coining year, rwolved to increase the general wharfage rate to 3s fid per ton, as from July Ist. It was also resolved to give the Railway Department notice of the hoard's intention to take over the control of the wharves as soon as possible. The board decided to ask the Shipping Controller why the steamer Whakatane was not sent* to Nelson as arranged to lift tho frozen meat, and other produce, seeing that the harbour is in the same condition now as when she came here before.
