POLICE COURT NEWS
SNEAK THIEF CAUGHT ACCUSED SENT TO GAOL. At-the Magistrate's Court yesterday before Mr E. Page, S.M., several Police Court prosecutions were heard. Theft of a suit of clothes and- an overcoat, calued at £ls, the properly of Kenneth McKenzie, was id'.L'itlcd by Joseph H. Bowker. ' Sub-Inspector Emerson said the accused, who had a "record," took the articles from the room or a "boarder, at tho Cambridge Efotel, but he ran into the arms of the licensee as he was"' leaving the .hotel. / ' ■ Bowker said he had no recollection of tho matter, and appealed ror leniency, urging in support of the application that he had a wife and three children to keep. The magistrate imposed a sentence of one month's imprisonment. ASSAULTS BY FIREMEN. Two firemen employed on the Corinthie, David Bennett and Charles Coppina;, admitted having assaulted tho chief steward, Donald C. Wilkins. The, latter also confessed a charge of using obscene language. ''-'*•' ~" Sub-Inspector EWlersOn" s'a'id "the assault was entirely unprovoked, and that while the men were being removed under arrest Copping made use of the language complained of. Each man was fined £5 for assault, and Copping was also mulcted £2 for language. OTHER CHARGES. A sentence of ono month's imprisonment was imposed on Henry Edgar Fox (Mr G. Mcllish) for indecently exposing himself in Manners • street, and lie was convicted and discharged for inebriacy. On charges of drunkenness, seven first-offenders were dealt with. John Reid, who had previously-been-convict-ed was fined 10s for a similar offence.
