STAFF PICNICS
The prevailing bad weather prevented tho picnic of Messrs Lever Bros, ito bo held at Maidstone Bark, Upper Hutt, instead of which it ia better being late than never, tho picnic for the sitaff took place ait the Drill Hall, P'etone, last Saturday, when there was a splendid - gathering of the employees, wives and friends. Hie day passed merrily, and those present took advantage of the singing and dancing on the pianoforte selections given by the Misses Cains, M. Salisbury and Marsh, as well as Mr Terrell. The various racing events on the programme attracted athletes of both sexes to compete in them. Some of them caused amusement and laughter and Messrs R.. House and Cooper are 'to- be wlarmly congratulated at tha manner in which they efficiently carried out the programme. The following are the results:—so yards flat race for the boys: Duncan 1. May 2. Ladies' race: Miss Cains. 1, Miss Marsh 2. Nail driving competition for ladies :Miss Keen 1. Tie and cigarettes: Miss A. Salisbury 1. 100 yards flat race for boys: A. Wright 1, W. Griffiths 2. Hat trimming for men: Cooper 1. Married ladies' race: Mri May 1, Mrs Truscott 2. Men's race.: S. Shaw If J. Love 2. Ladies' skipping race: Miss Cains 1. Thread and needle- race: Miss Cains, coupled with Mr G. Bradbury 1. Ladies' potato race: Miss A. Salisbury 1. GenHa' skipping race: Mr Ogg. % _ Tho success of the day's picnic must be dulv credited to the committee, which Vas composed or Messrs B. House, Shaw and Verrell, ana to the ladies, Misses Robinson and M. Lindigreen. Tho catering- was in tho hands of Mr Hazelwood, of Upper Hutt, and tho tables were in charge of the committee ,assisted by Misses Marsh (2), Lombardi, and Cains, as well as Mr Benge. The firm was represented byMr P. Truscott, factory manager, accompanied by Mrs Truscott. In a brief and -complimentary speech,- Mr Cooper, on behalf of the staff, thanked him for his presence and the donation of tropbies. Mr Trufcott suitably responded, and regretted very much that Mr Ebb, general manager and chairman of directors, was unable to be present owing to indisposition. The day terminated with the fringing of "For They aro Jolly Good Fellows."
