Mr Frederick Thurgarl and whose deatfc is announced -from -Xunedm, - held the position of accountant to-the firm of Messrs R. Hudson and Company, for _ 26 years. The deceased was a director of the Kaikorai Tramway Company, and as a young man was a member of the. , Union Rugby football team. The late Mir Thurgarland was also a musician and had a leading seat amongst the second violins of the Dunedin Grebes tral Society. Senior-Detective D. Ca meron, who hag been stationed at Dunedin for the past four years and a half, and who has now been transferred to Wanganui, was met by the members of the detective branch of the local police force and presented with an eiderdown quilt. Chicf-Detec-tive Bishop, who made the presentation, spoke highly of Mr Cameron’s many - fine qualities and of the esteem in which ho was held both by his brother officers and those with whom he came into contact. Bennie, of Rotorua, who has taken a prominent pilrt in the ath-letic-life of that town, was entertained at a farewell korero by the Bay of Plenty and Rotorua Rugby Unions and the Rotorua Athletic Club, and wai presented with'a dressing-case, a.gong and stand of antlers, a cigarette holder, ’ and a pencil case. The gifts came from various sections of the athletic organisations in recognition of services rendered by Mr Rennie, and the presentation was made by Air W. T. Parata, who presided over the meeting, ■ other sportsmen of the distinct adding to Mr Parata’s eulogy of the guest. Mr Rennie, who was'manager of the firm of* ‘ R. M. Stables, and is removing to Auckland, was presented by tho staff of., the firm with a silver tea set.
