YACHTING RACE

WON BY ROMP. The Evans Bay Yacht and Motor Boat Club held a general handicap race for vachts, the following boats starting:— Waibangi, Atalanta, Romp, Venus, Viking, and Soabird. Tho weather was per. fecc, there boing a strong S.E. wind, with smooth water. In a flying start the boats all got away in line <except Atalanta, which was 12 minutes'lato in Teacuing the line). The run to the north buoy saw Waibangi and Romp take tho lead, and they round, ed the mark buoy close together, being followed by Venus, Seabird, Viking, and Atalanta. On the beat back Waitangi gained several minutes, and Atalanta put in some fine work. The south buoy was rounded ill the following order: Waitangi, Romp, Venus, Atalanta, Seabird, and Viking. Tie wind, increased, and thero were some fairly heavy gusts. Ata. lanta passed Romp after rounding the north buoy the second time, and the finishing line wasi crossed bv Waitangi 4hrs 24min, Atalanta 4hrs 34mln 23sec, Romp, 4hrs 39min 12»ec, Seabird 4hrs 44min, Venus 4hrs 44min lOsec, Viking shrs Bmin 43sec. Wjjth the handicap adjustments the yaohtsjxwere placed as follow:—L. and R. Ibbofson's Romp (24 min) Ist, H. Roberts's''Seabird (27min) 2nd, Messrs Edwards and Martin's Venus (2"min) 3rd. The commodore donated a. special prize for the yacht completing tho courso in tho fastest time, and Messrs Adams and Hill's Atalanta won this prize by a very fine perform ance, beating Waitangi's time by a *mall margin.
