Much significance is attached to an article the "Onsland/' a Government organ, which states that the only logical consequence of the decision of the electors is that General Smuts (the Premier) should give General ilertzog an opportunity of taking the responsibility of Government of tho Union on his own shoulders, seeing that he has more followers than the leader of any other single party Then at least the political a-tmosphere would be cleared, with or without political thunderstorms.
Mr Roos, chairman of the Transvaal Nationalist Party, in a manifesto, 6ays that independence is no temporary matter or election' cry, fo be thrown aside, but something holy and precious. Only traitors could renounce it.
