STAFF PICNIC

L. T. WATKINS, LTD. The employees of Messrs L- T. Watkins. Ltd., held their seventh annual picnic at Maidstone Park, Upper Hutt, on Saturday last. The weather was ideal and a very enjoyable time was spent by about seventy persons comprising the staff and their friends A programme of sports events created a good deal of interest,, and much of tiT6 ‘day’s success was due to' the indefatigable efforts ot Mr P. Davis, the Park custodian. The following were the successful competitors in the various events:—Apprentices' race—P. Nelson 1, A. Wilson 2, N. Patching 3. Ladies’ handicap—Miss Anderson 1, Miss Le Comte 2. Jelly-eating competition—Miss Smith and Mr Wakelin. Whistling race—Mr Patching and Miss Anderson. Ladies’ Naildriving— Mrs Morris 1, Miss Anderson 2. Men’s championship handicap—ll. Kent 1, N. Patching 2, A. Allan 3. Married men’s handicap—H. Kent 1, A. Allan 2. Girls’ race—Miss Winter 1. Miss Watkins 2, Miss .Eflkington 3. Tug-of-War—Composi-tors heat “The Rest.’’ A relay »raco against Messrs Gordon and Gotch’s team was won by Messrs Kent, Pleasant, Patching, and Nelson after a close and exciting finish. The prizes were presented by Airs Watkins at the conclusion of the sports. Votes of thanks were tendered to the firm and committee, which was composed of Misses Anderson, Henderson. Le Comte, and Smith, aud Messrs Barlow (chairman), Wakelin, Molloy, Alexander, and P. Barcham (hon. secretary).
