JOCKEYS’ SUSPENSION
THE YOUNG BROTHERS’ CASE. . ' "APPEALS "ALLOWED. Much comment has been aroused recently in racing circles in regard to the appeal case of the jockeys Harold and George Young, who protested against the cancellation of their licenses by the Canterbury District Committee. The president of the Racing Conference, Sir George Clifford, under the rule enabling him to appoint any member of the conference to do any act’or thing which he himself is'empowered to do, appointed Sir William Herries. to name the judges to try the appeal of Die jockeys concerned. The result of the inquiry was receiver from Christchurch by Press Association message yesterday. The Young brothers had appealed previously to the district committee .against the decision of the in suspending them from riding, but the appeals were dismissed. ■;
The following is the judgment delivered by the judges of the New Zealand Racing Conference—Sir William Herries, Mr. George Hunter, M.P., and Mir C. P. Skerrett, K.C.: “The judged, after careful consideration of the evidence. are of opinion that the Canterbury District Committee had not before thorn . , sufficient evidence of misconduct on the part of either H. Young or G ; Young justifying the committee in suspending or withdrawing their respective jockeys’ licenses. The judges therefore reverse the decisions of the Canterbury District Committee suspending and withdrawing such, licenses and allow both appeals, deposits in each case to ho ’■■'funded to the appellants.”
