HORTICULTURAL SHOW

ANNUAL fixture; at levin. (Special to the "Times/*) OTAKI, Thursday. The. Levin Horticultural and Industrial Society's autumn show was a success iu every way. The entries were fairly up to the average, totalling about 461, cut blooms and vegetables oemg much tiie strongest .classes* with 116 and 104 entries respectively. The cut dowers were a very fine lot. There were eight collections of twelve varieties, ami four of : .sixteen varieties, and these, in themselves, made a very line array. There were fifteen entries for throe asters. Mrs R. Prouse being first and F. C. Lemmon second. Mrs Prouse also won a number of other prizes, including first for collection of sixteen varieties of cut flowers, with Mrs R. Bevan second. Mrs R. Bevan won first for double fuchsias, single geraniums, and lilium, and was second for gladioli. Mr Frank Penn took first for three roses (Mr T. T. Mason second), and second for collection of twelve varieties 9 r‘ cut. flowers. Miss Kebbell being first in this latter class. The champion dahlia of the show was exhibited by Mr T. Mason, of Feilding. Mrs R. Prouso was the most successful exhibitor in pot plants. The (decorative section was not so large as usual, though there ■was good competition for decorated table (seven entries) and decorated iuantelpiece (seven entries). Mrs. W. M. Clarke won first honours jn both these interesting classes, Mrs Reading being second for mantel, and Miss Goldsmith h.c.; while Miss P. Prouso was second for table, and Mrs D. ,S. McKenzie h.c. Mrs liorrdngs won the special prize for vase for tea table. Miss ICcbbell second, and Miss P, Prouse h.c. (nine entries). There was a fair display of fruit. Mr Blackburn won most of the apple awards, and Mr Bills those for peaches. Mrs R. Bevan secured second for Jonathan apples. The vegetable section was a capital one, the entry being a large one, and including many fine specimens.
