The Prince denies the charge. BERLIN, March 8. Prince Joac.hijm attempted to ireenter the Adlon restaurant, and the manager said that the waiters and cooks, who resented Prince Joachim’s monarchist activities, had announced that they would strike if he was allowed to enterand Joachim departed after indulgin'g in bad language. It appears that n. Prince Hohenlohe, who took part in the disturbance, took off a shoo and belaboured a Frenchman.
The Socialist newspapers angrily denounce the “drunken rowdies/’ and say that the people will be obliged to pay for their escapades. Even the Conservative Press deplores the “regrettable exhibition.” It transpires that on an earlier occasion Prince Joachim tried to hurl a heavy candlestick at a British officer who refused to stand during the playing of “Deutschland Über Alles,” (but his companions prevented him. Savage assaults on Entente representatives continue to excite the country. Eight French _ flying officers, members of the Aviation Mission, were attacked at Wernitz, near Potsdan, by a mob of peasants armed with hayforks and some firearms. The peasants accused them of poaching, and summoned them to surrender. Four obeyed, but the others tried to escape. One was killed, two wounded, and the fourth escaped. The Foreign Office is inquiring into the matter. A crowd assaulted a British chauffeur attached to a boundary commission near Posen because he photographed William the First’s statue. Prince Joachim and Colonel von Platen have been lodged in prison as a result of the Adlon Hotel incident. The commander at Bremen has appealed to Entente officers to wear uniform. , According to a Karlsruhe official statement it is estimated that one hundred thousand Germans _ have been left in Alsace-Lorraine. Three Allied officers of high rank of tlio Military Mission were assaulted by a large crowd in the streets at Bremen, An inquiry has been opened. AN APOLOGY TO FRANCE. OFFENDERS TO BE PUNISHED. (Received March 12, 1.10 a.m.) BERLIN, March 9. Herr Mueller has apologised to France for the Joachim incident, and promised that the culprits will be punished. The Government has issued a proclamation appealing for the cessation ot attacks which are likel yto lead to serious trouble, and threatens stern punishment.
