Tho Rev. James O’Reilly, of St. Mary’s, Port Chalmers, haa returned from an eight months’ visit to tho Old Country. lie visited his relatives in Dublin after an absence of IS years, and also had a trip to Prance and Italy. _ Father O’Reilly returned via America, where he spent a month.

The death occurred in Invercargill this week of Mr Andrew Laurie Kennaway. Ho was postmaster at Ocean Beach, a position ho had occupied for some years, besides being elcrk at the Ocean Beach Freezing Works. Prior to coming to Now Zealand the deceased. who was horn at Lasswade, neat Hamburgh, '57 years ngo, and educated at the Edinburgh High School and University, was admitted to the faculty of writers to the Signet nnd had gained such a standing’ in his profession that ho was one of the counsel in the celebrated Scottish tri.'d —the Arfilament case. He, however, turned his back on, tho law, and emigrated to New Zealand. •
