BARMAID IN TROUBLE
USES SISTER’S LICENSE TO SECURE EMPLOYMENT.
In the Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon before Mr El. Pago, S.M., Frederick Hilton, proprietor of the National Hotel, was charged with permitting an unregistered barmaid to serve in the bar, and also of employing an unregistered barmaid. Mr P. W. Jackson appeared for Hilton, who pleaded not guilty. Suh-Inspeotor Emerson, who prosecuted, in outlining tht facts, stated that some time ago Jessie Jackson, a barmaid, was prosecuted for being an unregistered barmaid, but owing to a defect in tho charge the caso was dismissed without prejudice to a further prosecution. It was admitted by Mr Jackson for the defence, that Jessie Jackson was employed as a barmaid, and that she was unregistered. Counsel said that would be admitted, if tho police would admit that Sadie MoAlpine was a registered barmaid, that she was a sister of Jessie Jackson, and that Jessie Jackson used her sister’s license when she obtained employment at the National Hotel. Sub-Inspector Ivni' t-oii admitted the facts. After hearing "evidence fcho magistrate said he would trice lime to consider the evidence, and resolved his judgment. A charge of aiding and abetting Frederick Hilton in employing an unregistered barmaid wan preferred against Jessie Jackson. On the application of Mr P. IV. Jackson, who appeared for her, tho charge was held over, ponding Mr Pago’s decision in the main case.
