Loader of tho Opposition, had his attention drawn by a reporter to ■Mr 0 • P. Luke’s (Mayor of Wellington) statement at the meeting of the ..Central Progress League in Wellington on Monday, “that tho volume id current that would ho supplied to Wellington by tho Mangahao scheme would not ho sufficient for ordinary domestic purposes. Th* supply would not squai thy demand' until such time as Lake Waikaromoana was harnessed. The "Wellington City Council had seen the difficulty with which it would bo faced in tho near future, and bad ordered steam power plants, so that the tram and light services would bo maintain ed.*» - Mr MacDonald, in reply, said that Wellington, despite the increased eoev of material, was - undoubtedly going ahead " and building rapidly, so that tramwhyh and lighting would be a serious vinced that Waikaremoana must- bo gone on with as soon as possible, in order to supplement Mangahao.”
