THE UNION’S DEMANDS. REVISION OF WAGES AND HOURSThe AYcllington United Boilermakers’" and Iron and Steel Ship and . Bridge Builders’ Industrial Union of 'AVorkers ’filed yesterday an application for : the claims in connection with their dispute to -ho heard before a councilof conciliation on February 34th. Tho union demands a reduction Jn. hours from 47 to 44" per week, with a decrease per day from B.J to 8- hours. In its new claims the union 1 seeks a minimum wage ior journey- - men of 3s per hour; for any boilermaker who itt* in- -charge of four or . more workers to "be deemed a leading |hand, and to. be paid 2s 6d extra per eight-hour shift; and for all boilermakers working with acetone gas, ch-c----)tric or, air-machinos, •, flanging, angleiron, smithing,, and marking-off „an extra allowance pf 2s 6d por-day, or-part of a day; Increases are also -claimed in regard to overtime; The present qallpws time and a quarter for .the first two .hours’ overtime, time arid I a half thereafter <up till 10 pan., and •double time'from then till “tho or-din- | ary time for commencement of work next day;vthe union, now claims a ■ consistent 'dopblo-ttime rate, with, a provision that if a'man work* till after midnight, he.-shall,ho deemed to have worked,. all night , and, ho: paid accordingly ; .for, all work done on Sundays. a ; double, overtime .rate is desir* ; ed.
