The War Graves Commission's refusal to allow relatives to erect private memorials in France and Flanders is sharply criticised on the grounds of souUessness and the appalling monotony of 500,000 uniform, gravestones. Speaking in the House of Commons, Lord ißobert Cecil declared that the decision was inflicting unjustifiable suffering. Mr Winston Churchill, -upheld; the uniform memorial for soldiers. The feeling was that prince and peasant, private and officer, 6hould rest together in common dignity and honour. "The Times," in a leader, says it is repugnant to British feeling that family right? should be surrendered to the State. .
