MR BROWNE AND MR ERASER
(To the Editor "N.Z. Timea.'O gj r> —With reference to the paragrapli which appeared in this morning's issue of your paper, headed "Mr Fraser Interrupts Mr Oakley Browne, I crave permission to state the true facts of- the case. Mr Fraser and I were in tlio vicinity and stopped to listen to Mr Browne, who was enga-ged in a bittei tirade against the Labour party. He mentioned Mr Fraser*a name several times, and at the end of one of his charges, I produced a pound note and offered to donate it to any charity pro. vided Mr Browne could prove the statement -which he had just made. _ Mr Fraser, who had not uttered a single syllable up to this point, then said, "J will make it twenty. 5 ' Mr Browne, find, ing himself in a tight corner, had to get out. of it somehow, and did so by unfairly attacking Mr _ Fraser and accusing him of disturbins his meeting. At the closo of his addross Mr Browne was invited to stay while Mr Eraser replied to his charges, but, evidently thinking discretion tbo better part of valour, drove off amidst the cheers and jeers of tho -crowd. The fact of having to seizo on, and misrepresent a small incident like this, shows how .politically bankrupt the Liboral candidato is. Yea, verily, a .drowning man will .grasp at a I nave Mr Frasor's authority for stating that his offer of twenty pounds to any charity is still open, provided Mr Browne -nroves the charges with reference to .the Labour party made by him at the irteoting in question. .
