The two suburban teams —Petone and Hutt —met on the Lower Hutt Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon. Hutt has won its first two games of the .and is leading for the championship honours, whilo Petone has been beaten by Old Boys and has secured a two-point win from East. Each team was on its mottle, as a keen friendly rivalry exists between them. Both teams are stronger this season than for some years past, and Bja interesting contest was anticipated. There was a fair number of spectators present when Hutt went in to bat. Gedye and Doneghuo were the first batemen and each opened carefully to the howling of Judd and Langford. Runs came slowly but as the batsmen became Bet the scorers were kept busy. When the total had reached 66 Doneghue got his leg in front to Aldersley, and had to retire. Brice filled the vacancy, and smart running between tho wickets added many singles to the score. "Sixer" Brice maintained his reputation by banging two loose "ones" over tho boundary in succession, and in attempting a third was well caught by Judd in the deep filed. Finlayson and Gate did not give much trouble, and Gedye, when playing with great confidence, was bowled off his pads by D. Naughton. Smyrk and O'Donohuo became associated, mado things particularly merry, and added 68 runs to tho total before they were separated. Inglis "carried" his bat for a dozen and the innings closed for the respectable score of 271. At times tho batting was aggressive, but boundary Ftrokos were difficult to obtain on account of the cleadness of the' outfield, although the wicket wns good. Stiles secured the best bowling average, and the fielding of Hutt was creditable, and very few possible chances were missed. There was only fifteen minutes before the drawing jof stumps, when Hutt went

[ into bat, and the opening was not of a pr.omising nature. Dukeson was bowled by Brioe before he had scored, and Hughes was unfortunately run out after he had contributed two runs. As the game stands Petonehaa every prospect of winning. The details follow: — i PETONE —First Innings. Doneghue, Ibw, b Aldersley 33 Gedye, b D.
