MONTHLY MEETING OF COT7NCIL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, November 9. The ordinarv monthly meeting of tna Horowhenua County Council was held. at Levin on Saturday, Councillor G. A. Monk presiding. S. Brooker (Tokomaru) wrote asking for long-promised drainage, ,to.be done. Tenders are to be called, to he considered at next meeting. The Commissioner of Crown Land* wrote asking for full compensation for land taken for soldier-settlement at Shannon. The amount is to be paid. A. , Houghton (Manakau) objected to the frontage .of his property being made a dumping-ground for old ting, etc. Tha complaint is to be attended to. The Levin "School Committee made » request for a '£ranr for' s>.'imiHing purposes. The sum of JJIS was granted. Tho Minister for Public Workß advised that the application for .£llOO for road repairs' caused through the railway, restrictions was bcin£ considered. Mr \V. H. Field, M.P., advised the council that local bodies were to be empowered to collect tho native dog tax. The request of tho Otaki Town Board, asking for road improvement to tho beach, was agreed to. j It was decided to declare goits w« a noxious weed. The ranger (G. Watson> was requested to report personally at bach monthly masting of the couuci. relative to wandering stock. Councillor Whyte and the engineer were appointed a committee to deal with improvements to roadmen's cottages at Tokomaru. It was decided to instruct tho.rangci not to impound from the roads, in tho Otaki. AVirokino. and Tokomaru ridings between the hours of a a.m. and 6 p.m. It was resolved that moneys received from the sale of county reserves "be ear. marked for building and repairing roadmen's cottages.
