TRADE WITH JAPAN

AUSTRALIAN RESTRICTIONS ENDEAVOUR TO ADJUST THE DIFFICULTIES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and K.Z. Cable Association. Two leading Japanese merchants have arrived on a mission to induce the Commonwealth to remove restrictions hampering trade with Japan. They disclaimed any intention of be-' ing antagonistic to the "White Australia" policy. Japan had no desire to send people to any country where they were not wanted. What Japan desired was a trade associationship to their mutual interest, and which, would bring about mutual respect. Asked regarding the Marshall ; and Caroline" Islands, the "merchants said they were no good in assisting Japan in solving her serious question—the rapidly-growing population. The islands wero unfitted for colonisation. Japan's motive in taking them was to prevent any other Power securing possession. No material gain can result by Japan's possession.
