When questioned by a reporter to* night regarding the allegations by the Returned Soldiers' Association that uu fit men were being prematurely discharged, Sir James Allen said the matter had come under his notice, and he had been assured by the Medical Department that the action of the board could be fully justified. The action taken was in the interest of the men themselves, as under tho Discharged ■Soldiers' Settlement Act a soldier wa» precluded from benefits of tho Act-un til ho had received his discharge. He was not in, a position to go into the matter, as no specific cases had yet been brought under his notice.
