TRANSPORT SCANDAL
INQUIRY BY AUSTRALIAN AUTHORITIES. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association, (Received November 6, 8.5 p.m. LONDON, November 4. The Australian military authorities’ inquiry with reference to the Waimana has begun before General Wisdom, president, and Lieutenant-Colonels Murphy and Whitham. The members of the court to-day visited Tilbury and examined the Waimana. They inspected the uncovered wharf where women and children suffered great. , dh(:omfart owting ho rain and exposure, and also examined the tender which was employed to convey the passengers from the wharf to the Waimana and to two other vessels lying in midstream. The tender also maintained a ferry service. It is anticipated that the inqury will ho completed by the week-end. When the Waimana was about to leave Tilbury the Australian soldiers and their wives refused to embark owing to the vessel being dirty and rat-infested.
