MAGISTRATE'S COURT
YESTERDAYS PROCEEDINGS POLICE CASES. Before Mr F. V. Frazor, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday four first offenders were charged with drunkenness and were each fined ss, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Norman Allan. Wilson, a returned soldier, was severely reprimanded by the magistrate for insobriety and refusing to quit the Foresters's Arms llo.e: when requested to do so. A conviction was recorded without penalty. For Committing a nuisance Christian Gundersen was fined £2, in default a week's imprisonment. Charged with bulling tho shop of James William Martin, m Courtenay place, on Januarv 25th. and stealing boots of the value of £0 9s, Lawrence John Malonev was remanded until tho 22nd instant. Charles Deeble was brought before the court on a charge of assaulting a male. Ho was remanded until the 26th inst., bail beine allowed in his own recognisance for .£l5O and one or two sureties of like amount. Ltd.. .£3O 10b by March 13'h. -in default twenty-one days' imprisonment, and George Pngh was ordered to pav Frost and Frost .£3 lis by March 6th, in default three days imprisonment. A DEFENDED ACTION. The hearing of the case in which. Dr. J M Christie sued H. Hesse, a lieutenant in the Base Records Office, for £3l Is for medicai services rendered to defendant's wife, was resumed. Mr E. K. Kirkcaldie appeared for the plaint.fi and Mr R. Kennedv for the defendant. The dt-fendant disclaimed liability on ths ground that h© had not engaged the nlaintiff or authorised his attendance. The magistrate held that the defendant's action in calling on. Dr. Christie prior to an operation being performed natl led the plaintiff to believe that he was sanctioning it. Judgment must therefore be for the plaintiff with costs.
