THE COMPETITIONS
The Town Hall continues to bo a Mecca for music lovers. The attendances continue to increase steadily, and the committee can see success already crowning their efforts. Tonight the- best programme hitherto submitted will be presented- The chief feature will bo the Men's Impromptu Speech, always an item of interest and provocative 01 mirth. There are six entries. Bach competitor is given a card ott which a subject is written. He has to trust to the inspiration of the moment, and make the best of it within four minutes, one .minute being given for the purpose of allowing the speaker to marshal his oratorical powers for a peroration. In addition to tins feature there will be the Kual of the Dickens character nketo (open class), own selection. This in eludes such well-known characters ns Svdnev Carton, Fanny Squeal's, Jonan (jhuzz'lewit. Miss Miggs, Miss Flite, Uriah Heep, Sarah Gamp the immortal, Miss Flora Fincbing, Jo, the crossing sweeper, Miss Moweher, Fagin the Jew, Mrs Nickleby, and other creations of the Cockney Shakespea.re. The open piano solo and the final in tho girls' champion recitation will form part of a most attractive programm*.
