SOME INTERESTING CONTESTS. At the competitions yesterday there were satisfactory attendances, and an interesting: group of contests. •;. The morning session opened with the musical monologue test, for which there v ore fifteen entrants. This contest revealed some good talent, and the judge, Mr .1. F. Montague, decided to recall four of the performers. There were 42 young ladies contesting the junior champion recitation for girls under 1G- The judging of - this big class in the concert chamber monopolised practically the whole of the afternoon. Other tests decided during the day "were the pianoforte solo test, the ladies' Scots EOng contest, the Highland dancing test, and the prepared speech competition. Huntington, Kound, Bitbssi. and F. Hyman. Reed of Tullooh in costume, 12 and under 16—Miss Rita Hands, Kilbirnie; Miss Doreen McClatchy, Newtown; Miss H H. Needhain, Wellington; Miss Annie Currie, Wellington; Miss Vera Flan, Wellington; Miss Margaret A. O'Connor; Miss Elsie M. Burns, Wellington. Misses Hands, McClatchy, JNeedham.
