UNCERTIFICATED
CASE OF SOLDIER TEACHERS. MET BY MINISTER FOR EDUCATION. Under the regulations relating to teachers' salaries, a deduction of 10 per cent, is made from the salary of head or solo teachers, or those engaged as assistants, # who are uncertificated. Recognising that many oi the young men who proceeded on active service probably would havo been ablo to qualify for a certificate had they not been absent on servlot abroad, and in order to assist such returned soldiers, the Minister for Education (the Hon. J. A. Hanan) has given instructions that for a period of two years after his return, no deduction will be made from the salary of an uncertificated teacher who .has been on active service. It is considered that during that period they will have ample time in which to qualify for a certificate.
