LIFE-SAVING
WORK OF MARANUI CLUB. The annual meeting of the Maranui Surf and Life-Saving Club was held last night. The report of the executive stated that there were 194'"members on the roll, 116 men and 78 ladies. Tne club's finances were shown to be in a very sound condition; it has no liability, and has a fair sum in the hank to start the new season with. The club has a splendid war record, for out of a membership of 116 men, every eligible man has gone into camp. During last season four rescues irom drowning were effected by the club. On two occasions rescuers were hampered by members of the public rushing in mistaken zeal to haul on the life-line. ''This is a very dangerous practice," states the report. . "We have a large number of highly-trained men, who require no assistance in rescuing those in danger, and afterwards applying artificial respiration. We sincerely wish the pubic would cease this practice, as they might, quite unconsciously, drown both the rescuers and the rescued. A special training is reguired to haul these two to safety, especially in a heavy surf." During the year a junior team was formed, and its members have responded to every call made upon them willingly. The election of oiticers resulted as follows:—President, i>r A. iv.. i\ewnian, M.P.; vice-presidents, .Messrs T. Ronayne, 1.5.0., A. W. 'Mo-ran,' senr., U. to. Hill, J. A. Smith, J. P Maxwell, J. 11.
