HOT LAKES TROUT AND FRESHWATER ANIMALS. The Minister for Internal Affairs has approved of a suggestion by Dr J. Allan Thompson (director of the Dominion Museum) that arrangements should be m,ade for Mr Phillips (temporary museum assistant) to make a sftentifie research respecting the various species of trout found in the lakes in the thermal district, more especially as to the probable effect in the future' which may be expected owing to the different species found in these lakes. The report, amomr other things, is to determine definitelv the various species. The research is also to include tho determination of the freshwater animals living in tho thermal lakes nnd rivers and the chemical investigation oi the waters, so that the material may be available for forming a sound opinion as to what may_ be expected in tho future. In addition, experiments in the hvbridisation of trout may be undertaken.
