RACING NEWS

FIXTURES. September 19—Efemont Racing Club. NOTES AND COMMENTS (By "Tohunga.") The Amberiey Racing Club will hold its. meeting at North Canterbury on Thursday. Considering the calibre of the function the fields are very good. The Jumpers’ Flat Race, run over a mile and a quarter, has a field of eight, including Art, Jeannot, Golden Prince, Luff, and Moddite. The latter may prove to have more pace than most of those engaged. Eight nailers are engaged in the Amberiey Cup, and the field is by no means a poor one. The top weight, Disdainful (3.1), ie said to be in good form and should perform accordingly. Tremena with 7.8 appears to be the best of the bunch, and King Star with 6.13 should surely be able to do something better than the others. Silver and Black is engaged in .the Hack Handicap, which has an acceptance of nine. He and Derby Day should be able to make things interesting for the others running. Amongst the acceptors for the Open Welter is the name of Hiero. who, with 3.9 to carry, should run as good a race as any of them. If Martial can display some of her old-time form there may be a place for her. The Martian mare won some good races the season before last, but she has been off the scene for some time, and may not be ready. Pyjama is engaged in the Wattle Handicap, of six furlongs, and should run well. A formidable opponent will be Daytime, the top weight, who is running well just now, A certain amount of estrangement exists between Ireland and England regarding racing. The Irish Turf Club recently decided that no racehorses from England would be allowed to race in Ireland. It sounds like a Pan-Irish movement. Mr H. Brinkman, the South Island trotting bandieapper, lost a son in the recent fighting in France. Bee, the ex-New Zealander, is reported to be doing exceedingly well on the tracks at Randwick. Win Soon, who accounted for the New Zealand Trotting Cup of 1915, is now being used as a hack by her owner. The daughter of King Child—Topsy is reported to be looking big and well. It is just possible that Win Soon may be raced again, as Messrs Stevenson and MoMath have pursued a similar course successfully with other mares, racing and breeding them alternately. A vote of thanks to the president, outgoing stewards and officials of the olnb concluded the meeting. ANNUAL MEETING HELD. Press Association, CHRISTCHURCH. September 10. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Association was hold todav. Tho president. Mr P. Selig, in moving the adoption of the report and balancesheet, paid a tribute to the energy and enterprise of tho individual clubs in providing excellent sport and substantial stakes, and assorted that each a policy had been demonstrated to bo a paying one. Classic events should be encouraged a« there tended to improve the breed of horses. In tho Auckland district breeding had not gone ahead as well as was expected, but the enterprise of the Auckland Club would surely bring its reward. It should never be forgotten bv those who framed programmes that the high standard of the sport could only, be maintained hr catering foy the high-

cst class of competition. 110 suggested establishing a classic event to be caller! the New Zealand Oaks. The trotting clubs contributed srreatlv both m taxation and donations to cost of prosecuting the war. The imposition of incomo tax on club revenue would be a severe blow to tho clubs, but if the decision of the pending Supremo Court action was against tho clubs lbcy must accept tho position as gracefully as posTho election of officers resulted as follows President. Mr P. Selig; vioe-pre-oident. Mr H. F. Nicoll: hon. treasurer, Mr W. .T. Hopkins: licensing committee, Messrs W. H. Denton and W. .T. M. Hopkins: appeal oemmfittee, Messrs P. Selig, H. W.
