THE MILK QUESTION

To the Editor ‘N.Z. Times.” Sir,—To-day I received one of the celebrated milk supply cards. Before I sign and return this, 1 want some more information on tho subject. I must first state that I am and have been satisfied with my milkman and do not require any change. Under the proposed “monkey puzzle,” I may get a deliverer to whom I might object. Wbat am I to do? Wbat right has the council to prevent my keeping the same man? Might as well interfere with the grocer, baker, butcher, etc. Questions: ■ What hour will my milk be delivered? Will there he more than one delivery? In the summer will there be. only one, delivery? Why should I spend money for coupons a month in advance? If I ran out of coupons, would the. milk be delivered if money was left? What price is the milk to be? Will it always be the same price? If -the milk should go bad, who is to be responsible? Does the council guarantee the purity? and who would bo responsible, and could I recover the cost of fresh milk, if necessary? Are the ratepayers to be called upon to pay for any loss entailed by muddling, or is the price of milk to be raised to do so? What is tho great anxiety of tho council about this question? Is it good fat billets for favourites? How is the council to recuperate itself if tho affair turns out a loss? Who will get tho benefit, if any profit is made? If it is made, ■will the price of milk be reduced? Is the council to provide recopticles for the tins or basins into which the milk is to be put ? Supposing X leave a basin or jug inside my door, the milks man leaves the milk in it, forgets to shut the door, cat finds this out, drinks milk, who bears the loss? —I am, etc., HANKY-PANKY. August 22nd, 1918. P..S.—Let the council take a vote of the residents on the above question.
