CATHOLIC SOCIAL
A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The annual Catholic social in aid of the schools was hold in l the Town Hall last night, and as in past years the function was an unqualified success. For the first hour or so those present were entertained by an interesting programme of films, kindly lent for the occasion by the New Zealand Picture Supplies, Ltd. The programme was a flr.st-elui«F one, and included interesting topical and educational pictures, also Charlie Chafilin in “The Vagabond.” After the pictures the floor was cleared for dancing, and those interested enjoyed it thorongmy until a late hour. The arrangements were excellent. The refreshments were in the capable hands of a committee of ladies. Mr P. D. Hosking. as general secretary, controlled the general arrangements most satisfactorily. The Jl.C's. for the dancing wore Messrs G. 11. Harris, J. J. Troy, and I). McPhee. Ur J. J. L. Burke was treasurer. The liev. Father Hurley was chairman. Among those present were His Grace Archbishop O’Shea, the Venerable Archdeacon Dovoy and a large number of the clergy. Mr McLaughlin’s- orchestra provided the music both for the pictures and the dancing. The Catholic. Education Fund should benefit considerably from, the function.
