MR S.E. M'CARTHY, S.M.
"NO QUESTION OF TRANSFER." MINISTER 'FOR JUSTICE EXPLAINS POSITION. The Hon. T. M. Wilfbrd (Minister for Justice) has written to Mir J. W. McEwan (Mayor of Petone) as follows, with reference to the resolution recently passed by the Petone Borough Council, urging the retention in Wellington of Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M.:—"There appears to be some., misapprehen'sion in the matter,;., Mr S. B. MoCarthy is not being transferred from Wellington, but has been granted a month's leave of absence for recreation purposes. I may say with regard to Mr McCarthy, that his permanent headquarters are at Napier; but, owing to his services having been required in connection with military duties at Wellington, it wa s found more convenient for him to remain here for the time being, and to-carry out the duties of the second magistrate, who was acting as chairman of a Military Board. No question of -the'transfer of Mr McCarthy, therefore, can arise in the matter."
